Mohare Danda is a breathtaking hilltop viewpoint standing at 3,313 metres (10,869 feet) above sea level in the southern ridge of the Annapurna Conservation Area in Nepal. It has gained global recognition as the centerpiece of the Mohare Danda Trek (or the Myagdi Community Eco-Trek), a sustainable, community-managed alternative to the heavily crowded Poon Hill trail. The trail directly supports the local economy by funding community schools and medical centers in the Parbat and Myagdi districts through its network of eco-lodges.
🏔️ Trek Overview & Highlights
- The Panoramic View: Offers a dramatic, front-row view of over 15 snow-capped peaks, including Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South (7,219m), and Machapuchare (Fishtail, 6,993m). Many trekkers note that its sunrise and golden alpenglow sunset views rival or exceed those of Poon Hill.
- Sustainable Eco-Tourism: Instead of commercialized tea houses, you sleep in authentic community homestays and eco-lodges run by the local ethnic Magar people. 100% of the tourism profits are shared back into the community.
- Tranquil Trails: This route is highly peaceful. It is quite common to hike for hours through the pristine pine, oak, and rhododendron forests without encountering any other tourist groups.

Difficulty & Best Preparation
- Difficulty Level: Easy-to-moderate. The paths are well-maintained, and the gradual elevation gain makes the risk of altitude sickness relatively low.
- Physical Challenge: Be prepared for significant uphill and downhill stone staircases. Training on stair-steppers or hiking hills prior to arrival is recommended.
- Best Season: Autumn (September to November) brings crisp, clear blue skies for the best mountain visibility. Spring (March to May) covers the entire hillside in vibrant, blooming pink and red rhododendron flowers.
💰 Estimated Costs & Logistics
- Package Pricing: A full-board guided 4-to-6 day package typically ranges from USD $290 to $595 per person, depending on group size and inclusions (e.g., porters, private transit).
- Permits: You will need both the TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management Systems) card and the ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) permit.
- Packing Essential: Unlike highly commercialized trails, there are very few shops along this ridge. Bring your own snacks and rehydration electrolytes, as options to buy them are non-existent between villages.
